The tables turned on team M&P last week, when we spent a day in front of the camera rather than behind it. It’s all so easy when we’re encouraging clients ‘not to worry – just be yourself, pretend it’s not there’. Yet things aren’t quite so simple when the shoe is on the other foot.
So what was this 5 minutes of fame all about? And why on earth did we put ourselves through it (a question we’re all still asking…). Well we realised that as video producers, we have to start practicing what we preach and showing what we’re made of.
We are firm believers that engaging video content is one of the best, arguably the best method of communication at present. And although we produce some fantastic videos for our clients, we haven’t yet used this channel for our own communications. Coupled with a website rejuvenation, establishing new brand guidelines and igniting discussion around our own brand purpose, we decided that video is the way to tell everyone just what we’re made of.
Although a traditional show reel would have been the obvious, easiest and quickest production option – we decided on a different approach; one that is truly representative of our style, skill and personality. After all, the entire purpose of video content is to successfully and engagingly communicate a message, in a fun, memorable and appealing way. We want everyone to know who we are, what we do and why we do it. And the best way for people to believe what we’re saying, is for them to hear us telling our truth.
Finally putting our nervousness aside, we got into the swing of things on filming day and ended up having a really fun time. For the purpose of the video we had to think about why we love our jobs, this company and each other; which is no bad thing if you ask us. Ending proceedings with a well-deserved glass of wine or two, to calm those in front of the camera nerves, we definitely felt the love by the end of the day!
